After a 100 year break the construction of the tower resumed and the architects tried to correct the leaning by making the tower taller on one side. The tower was not designed to lean but during the construction of the tower it started leaning because the foundation was built on soft ground and the project was put on hold. The construction of the Tower of Pisa began in 1173 but was not completed until 1372. The tower is part of a complex known as the Square of Miracles that includes the Cathedral of Pisa, the Baptistery, a cemetery and the Bell Tower (leaning tower of Pisa). The Leaning Tower of Pisa is in Italy’s Tuscany region in the city of Pisa.
